Charging points sized to your installation

Charging an electric vehicle can happen in two ways: fast charging or normal charging. Both place real demands on your electrical installation, and in many cases a dedicated circuit or an extension of the distribution board is needed before a charging point can be connected. The following charging modes are commonly used:
- Mode 1 - charging via a standard socket (230V, max 10A) with no current limiting. Not used for vehicle charging.
- Mode 2 - charging with a fixed current limiter, usually via a standard socket or a simple home charging cable. In practice, the maximum charging current is around 10A, minimising the risk of overloading the circuit.
- Mode 3 - controlled charging, where the vehicle and the charge point communicate and only apply voltage once a suitable charging current has been agreed. This requires a dedicated circuit at home, with a charging power of 16A to 32A.
- Mode 4 - DC fast charging, where the charge point controls the entire charging process directly with the vehicle's battery. This requires a heavy-duty electrical connection and is most common along motorways.
We assess your existing installation, advise on the right mode and capacity for your situation, and carry out any circuit or distribution board work needed before installing the charging point itself.
